Meet Lorie Michaels, Evidence Based Birth® Instructor
My journey into birthwork began in an unexpected place — a college statistics class. I wanted a project that kept me interested enough to stay awake through the semester, so I decided to interview women about their birth experiences. What I heard changed everything. The stories were raw, powerful, and eye-opening. They inspired me to dig deeper — to learn from voices like Sheila Kitzinger, Ina May Gaskin, and the Bradley Method.
That research led me to plan my own home birth, and it was a beautiful, empowering experience — one that made me realize how deeply preparation and support shape the birth journey. When I became a doula in 2013, I quickly saw that not everyone had access to that kind of care. Working with more than 170 birthing families and teaching over 600 students, I’ve witnessed firsthand how knowledge, advocacy, and compassion can transform birth experiences.
As an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, I’m here to help families feel confident, informed, and respected — no matter where or how they give birth. My classes combine solid evidence, hands-on comfort measures, and advocacy tools that help families navigate our healthcare system with clarity and strength.
