About
This class is offered with deep respect and humility. I am not a Black woman, but I believe it’s essential to uplift the voices, legacy, and leadership of Black midwives, healers, and advocates whose brilliance has shaped maternal care — despite centuries of erasure and injustice. This offering is a small part of honoring that truth. Black Brilliance is designed for doulas, birthworkers, and perinatal professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of systemic racism in reproductive care and actively work toward birth equity. This anti-racism doula training centers the historical and present-day brilliance of Black midwives, healers, and birthing people — offering truth-telling, context, and action steps for meaningful change. Through storytelling, history, reflection, and guided practice, this program honors the legacy of Black birthwork while inviting non-Black doulas (especially white practitioners) into a space of accountability and growth. You’ll explore the roots of obstetric racism, the erasure of Black midwives, and the ongoing disparities in maternal health — without centering trauma or guilt. Instead, we lift up resistance, joy, and community wisdom as tools for liberation. Whether you’re a new doula or a seasoned educator, this course equips you to show up in birth spaces with greater humility, cultural awareness, and a commitment to reproductive justice. ✅ What You’ll Learn: The historical foundations of obstetric racism and medical exploitation The erasure of Black midwifery and the rise of institutionalized obstetrics Present-day disparities in maternal health and provider bias Ways to honor Black birthing traditions and amplify birth justice work Practical steps to integrate anti-racist principles into your doula practice
