Lorie Michaels, CD(DONA)

Rhode Island

Birth Doula

Lorie Michaels is the founder of BirthPro and a passionate advocate for physiologic, inclusive, and culturally responsive birth care. For more than two decades, she has served as a doula, childbirth educator, lactation counselor, and mentor, guiding families and training birth professionals across diverse communities.

Lorie officially started her birth work journey in 2013 with Tara Campbell, one of the most highly respected doula trainers in the United States. The passion, depth, and joy she learned from Tara has carried through into her own career.

Her teaching blends evidence-based skills with a deep respect for the cultural, emotional, and physical rhythms of birth. Lorie specializes in trauma-informed, equity-driven, and bodywise care — empowering doulas to support birthing people with confidence and compassion. Lorie has mentored hundreds of doulas, developed training programs centered on LGBTQ+ and BIPOC perspectives, and championed birth equity through advocacy, education, and community partnerships.

Lorie believes that well-supported doulas change birth outcomes — and that changing birth changes the world.
